7 Reasons to Consider a Studio Family Portrait Session

I know that when you hear the words “portrait studio” many of you will immediately think of all the awkward family photos (one of my favorite Instagram accounts, by the way) featuring fake bookcase backdrops or the “autumn in the woods” look.  Luckily for all of us, portrait studios have come a long way.  My favorite local portrait studio includes two lifestyle rooms (completely furnished and beautifully lit), a newborn room (ready for your newest citizen), and a warehouse equipped with lights, seamless paper, and (my personal favorite) a cyc wall.  Although my studio sessions do include a studio rental fee, the pros of using a studio for your family portrait session are definitely worth considering.

  1. It’s Air Conditioned!  The Arizona heat is intense, but more than that it seems to last forever.  Often we’re well into October before the weather finally lets up.  Using an air conditioned studio means you can get great family portraits whether it’s 115 degrees or 15 degrees outside.

2. Convenient Booking Times.  My outdoor portrait schedule is based on the best light of day, which means sessions are all close to sunset.  That is not always the most convenient time for my clients.  With a studio session, you can book any time of day that works best for you.

3. The Space is Yours.  With a studio session you won’t have to worry about competing with other families for the perfect portrait location.  Avoid the crowds and enjoy your own space.

4. It’s Comfortable.  Being indoors means you can dress comfortably without worrying about the elements.  Go shoeless!  Wear your pajamas!  Anything goes!

5. It’s Safe.  In a studio setting you won’t have to worry about your children falling into a stream or being eaten alive by mosquitoes.  If any family members have health problems or disabilities, an indoor session is much more convenient than an outdoor session.

6. Keep Your Look Fresh.  The studio includes bathrooms and makeup mirrors, which makes it much easier to keep your look fresh or even have a wardrobe change.

7. Always Perfect Light.  As I mentioned before, my outdoor sessions are scheduled around when the light is just right.  The great advantage of a studio is that the light is always perfect!
